WAEC conducts two exams: SSCE (internal) for school candidates & SSCE external (formerly, GCE) for private candidates.

WAEC SSCE (internal) and WAEC GCE Biology syllabus are the same.

Because all the topics where your Biology questions will be asked from in SSCE (internal) are also found in the WAEC GCE Biology syllabus.

How many questions are asked in WAEC Biology exam?

You’ll answer a total of 60+ questions in three different papers, one of which is compulsory while the others depend on your exam type (SSCE or GCE) and resident country.

  • PAPER 1: will be a practical test (for school candidates ONLY) with three parts (I, II, III) to last for 2 hours. You will answer all questions in Part (I) and one question from either Part (II) or (III).
    • PART (I): will have two compulsory questions for all candidates.
    • PART (II):  will have one questions ONLY for candidates in Ghana, Sierra Leone and The Gambia.
    • PART (III): will have one question for candidates in Nigeria.
  • PAPER 2: will consist of two sections (A and B) to last for 2½ hours.
    • SECTION A – will last for an hour with 60 objective questions for all candidates.
    • SECTION B – will have 8 questions divided into three parts (I, II, III) for you to answer 3 of them in 1½ hours.
      • PART (I): will consist of 4 questions for all candidates to answer 2.
      • PART (II): will consist of 2 questions for candidates in Ghana, Sierra Leone and The Gambia to answer 1.
      • PART (III): will consist of 2 questions for candidates in Nigeria to answer 1.
  • PAPER 3: will be a test of practical work (for private candidates ONLY) to last for 2 hours with three parts (I, II, III) for you to answer all questions in Part (I) and all in either Part (II) or (III).
    • PART (I): will have two compulsory questions for all candidates.
    • PART (II):  will have questions ONLY for candidates in Ghana, Sierra Leone and The Gambia.
    • PART (III): will have questions ONLY for candidates in Nigeria.
